Valiz invited many people from different disciplines to respond to the question 'What is the future
of
the book? What is the future of books on art, design, architecture and cultural criticism?' to
celebrate
their 20th anniversary.
Each section was designed by a young graphic designer.
I designed the two chapters 'Personal Threads' and 'Concentration in Time'.
For each section I chose an individual design and used different open source fonts.
Personal Thread:
When I set out to design this concept, my main goal was to create a layout that felt personal and
intimate. I wanted it to celebrate the future of publishing, but also feel unique and special. I
focused
on creating a design that had a very nice flow, with each element flowing seamlessly into the
next.
One of the most important aspects of this design was to ensure that each entry was treated with care
and
attention to detail. I wanted each piece to feel individual and important, while still fitting
seamlessly into the overall layout.
Concentration in time:
When I started working on this design concept, I knew I wanted to create something unique that would
engage the reader and make their experience enjoyable. To achieve this, I played with the amount of
text
and used a fluid design to create a fun and exciting layout.
I wanted to make sure that each spread was unique and yet cohesive. This allowed me to play with
different elements and create a dynamic reading experience. Whether there was a lot of text or just
a
little, I found ways to make each spread visually interesting and engaging.
